Styles

We offer a range of styles for all ages and levels

Below are a definition of styles on offer at KADS, we have qualified teachers for each style

Jazz

Jazz dance encompasses a wide variety of dance styles and can take many different forms using a broad range of music.   Within a jazz class particular attention is paid to establishing solid dance technique at all levels of training.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance uses a combination of ballet and jazz technique but has a stronger emphasis on emotions and storytelling.   Our choreographers are extremely talented in this genre and create some beautiful routines in this style

Tap

Tap is a lot of fun and a great aerobic dance style. The sound is created from metal plates attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoes. Tap has been made famous by Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and now our own Australian ‘Tap Dogs’.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is not a specific dance technique but a collection of methods developed from modern and post-modern dance, incorporating strong, and often angular body and armlines. It is an enjoyable and quite unique dance style and students are encouraged to try it out.

Hip hop

Hip hop dance is the direct result of a marriage of two separate movements from the United States: the “b-boy” movement from the ghettos of New York, and the “West Coast Funk” movement from the streets of Los Angeles.

Ballet

Ballet is a classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement.

Cheer

Cheer is a fun and acrobatic dance style suited to all ages and levels of students.  We encourage students who are enrolled in Cheer class to also enrol in acro and jazz classes for technique and strength.  Cheer uniforms are specially made with our logo and are used over several years' concerts and performances.

Commercial Jazz

Commercial jazz, which has been popular since the 1980s, combines aspects of hip hop and jazz and is often done to pop music. This style can be seen in the music videos of Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul.

Acro

This class is for students wishing to learn the basics of acrobatics to aid their other dance classes.  Students are taught how to gain extra strength and flexibility as well as establishing core strength for lifting and balance.

Pointe

Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. Students must hit certain criteria to be eligible for a pointe class.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

KPOP

K-pop (short for Korean pop; Korean: 케이팝) is a genre of popular music originating in South Korea. It is influenced by styles and genres from around the world, such as experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots.
