February started strong for the students at KADS. With classes back in full swing, students were
found working towards events such as our 80’s inspired cabaret set to be taking place on Friday
the 4th of June as well as the Australian Dance Crew Championships, a hip hop competition
happening in May that our very own crew, nineteen 87 will be competing at. Students were working
hard and getting excited for the year and fun opportunities ahead!
During February however, Melbourne found themselves back in a 5 day snap lockdown to lower
the cases of COVID as they had begun to rise again. The teachers at KADS were quick to
organise a zoom schedule that would include everyone continuing to do their classes from home.
We are truly becoming professionals at adapting to and overcoming these uncertain times!
Despite being at home, all students continued to put their all into ensuring that they were getting
the most out of the time spent with their teachers and friends. This experience continues to prove
just how great an outlet dance can be for any and all people. The perfect distraction from what is
going on in the world around us.
The 5 day lockdown came to an end and before we knew it, we were all back together working
hard and enjoying the energy of dancing alongside the people we love. These experiences
continue to teach me personally just how important it is to never take a second for granted, a day
where we get to do what we love is a day to be grateful for.
The end of the 5 day lockdown also meant that myself and fellow KADS dancer, Carli - Mai, were
heading into our full time performing arts course at Transit Dance. While I am entering my second
year here, Carli is beginning her first year! It is always exciting to see KADS dancers thriving in
new settings and watching Carli over the past few weeks has filled me with so much happiness
and pride. The improvements displayed in her dancing already is outstanding! We are both very
excited to continue working hard and doing KADS proud as the year progresses.
Classes for students to work on their technique and to retain and adapt to different choreography
have continued in the build up to next term where all classes will begin working on their routines for
our end of year concert! 2021 is already proving to be huge!
