April, 2021

March was quite the exciting month for many students at KADS, one student in particular is

especially thrilled to be well into the rehearsal and preparation process of this years Victorian

State School Spectacular. Elite student and Monday night Junior hip hop teacher, Khealee

Kidman, has spent March working hard towards the 2021 VSSS show. Following her first year as

a principle dancer during the 2020 VSSS showcase, Khealee is keen to be joining in again for this

years show that is themed ‘Live Louder’. This show will be including a combination of newer

songs and songs that were unable to be used last year due to COVID.

Rehearsing under the title of principle dancer alongside an ensemble of other passionate dancers

from public schools around Victoria, Khealee has been committed to rehearsing each Sunday

from 10am until 5pm as well as during an allocated week throughout the school holidays. As a

former VSSS performer myself, I can confirm that these rehearsal situations are the perfect

opportunity to prepare your mind and body for what studying a full time dance/ performing arts

course may be like. The long hours of cleaning routines down to the finest detail can be tough!

But to see a show you have worked so hard to perfect come together is a magical feeling.

This years VSSS will be performed in September as an arena show! Due to COVID, Khealee’s

experience last year was quite different. All routines were learnt through zoom meetings at home

and the show itself was filmed in front of a green screen that was sent out to each performers

house. The final product of last years show was something truly unique, however Khealee is

thrilled to be participating this year as a year 12 student in the arena for the first time! Khealee

describes this experience as “one to remember” advising anyone who can take part in it to do it,

“you won’t regret it!”

The Victorian State Schools Spectacular will air during the first weekend of December on channel

7. Please keep a close eye out for Khealee who will undoubtedly be making myself and all of

KADS very, very proud!
