Hello! My name is Bonnie Ramsay, I am 19 years old and I am a student at Kim Annette Dance Studios. Welcome to my first blog! As an introduction to this series, I would love to tell you all a bit about myself and my time in training at KADS.
As a young aspiring netball player, my parents got quite the shock when at 12 I decided I wanted nothing more than to be just like the girls from Dance Moms! I had grown up being quite the ‘tomboy’, I was extremely passionate about Netball and loved spending my weekends at the footy or watching Saturday morning Simpsons re runs. However, I always had a love and understanding of music across all genres and deep down knew that I wanted to eventually pursue a hobby that allowed me to connect with music on a deeper level.
As if the world was listening in on my frustrations regarding a lack of dance school in my suburb, it was an absolute blessing to hear through a friend that there would be a dance school opening a branch close to home in early 2013. After getting my parents in on the idea, I found myself in my first lyrical class with Miss Amber! It was truly love at first pirouette.
Very quickly, one combined jazz and lyrical class a week turned into four full nights of classes across both the Cranbourne and Knox studios. More dancing, meant more opportunities to perform! I have been fortunate enough to dance at festivals, competitions, solo presentation days and due to my training at KADS have also scored myself gigs in the Victorian State School Spectacular and as a mascot performer in the Royal Melbourne Show through the help of my previous full time dance school as well.
After six years of working hard at KADS most nights after school, I was ready to audition for the full time dance schools in Melbourne. Being successful in both of my auditions created the opportunity for me to complete a year of full time performing arts training at Patrick Studios Australia. I learnt many valuable lessons during my time at PSA, I worked hard, I improved, I sweated... a lot, but in the end, certain schools just aren’t for everyone. PSA is a phenomenal school that produces fantastic talent, however I knew that for me to continue progressing in both my training and love for dance, my time was going to be better spent elsewhere.
Today I am happily training in the full time performing arts course at Transit Dance. Although most of my training there has been spent over zoom, my love for dance has blossomed and only continues to blossom. So much so that after a full 6 - 7 hour day on zoom with transit, I still had the drive to get online for some of the Tuesday and Wednesday night KADS zooms! Training at a school that lifts your love for yourself and what you do is beyond important, I am so lucky to be at not only one, but two schools who do that for me. I cannot wait to continue expressing my love for dance as well as fun stories and updates on all things KADS on this platform for you all to read.
