Filming of “The Show Must Go On….Line”

2020 was truely a crazy year. In a year full of so much uncertainty, the teaching staff at KADS worked tirelessly to provide an escape for their students. From the beginning of the first lockdown back in March, until the end of the second lockdown in October, KADS provided us all with pre recorded classes, zoom classes and even workshops with outside choreographers. Despite being stuck in our homes, we were all still working hard at our craft all thanks to the love, care and guidance of our amazing teachers at KADS.

At the end of each year, our hard work is showcased in an on stage performance involving the whole studio. Due to COVID restrictions, the chances of this happening for us was very quickly recognised as highly unlikely. It would have been such a shame to finish off a year of hard work without something to show for it. If this year has taught us anything , it is to always persevere and find light and opportunity even in the toughest situations. With an open mind and a desire to create something fun and memorable for all dancers, the teaching staff at KADS explored the concept of an online show that would showcase all students across all age groups and all genres.

Rehearsals for KADS end of year production, “The Show Must Go On… Line” begun at the beginning of term four, whilst we were all still in our homes on zoom! Due to the hard work of all Victorians, restrictions were eased and we were fortunate enough to be able to complete these routines in the studio. The energy of being surrounded by those who were eager and excited to be doing what they love all together again was a feeling that I, and I am sure many others, will never forget.

After working hard to create an entire show in the short span of 7 weeks, we were finally ready to begin the filming process. With the help of the incredible, Mitch Cook ( @cameleon_productions_), we were able to film all routines in just one day! This experience allowed everyone to gain a wider knowledge on how to perform in front of and around a camera which is something that we may not have experienced if circumstances allowed us to perform a regular concert on stage. The maturity, patience and work ethic displayed on filming day created an enjoyable time for all! This experience was certainly a unique one that we should all be able to look back on and be so proud of.

Watching the final product of our show this year filled me with so much joy! It was truly so special.  The development of all students was showcased beautifully, everybody has worked so hard and it really shows. KADS proved that absolutely nothing can stop the show from going on, not even a global pandemic.

Congratulations to all of the students and teachers at KADS for pushing through this trying year and creating something beautiful.

Another special congratulations to Carli-Mai and Scarlett for your awards, you are both so deserving and I am personally beyond excited to see you both continue to blossom in the coming years.

Bring on 2021!!
